WHAT IF I NEED MORE HELP COMPLETING THE HANDBOOK?

The handbook arrives with several highlighted areas that require your review and input to ensure:

  1. They best represent how your business operates, and/or

  2. They reflect your business’ or jurisdiction’s legislative requirements (e.g., hours of operation, time off, leave or vacation time offered, etc.)

  • These areas are pre-populated based on common responses; however, you will need to make sure those responses fit your workplace-specific operations. You can customize the changes yourself or have one of our professionals assist you.

  • The amount of time needed to finalize the handbook will vary from business to business. In some cases, the company may need to make decisions on how they wish to apply a particular policy if that policy topic is new to them. This may require additional time for you to finalize the handbook on your own, or we can assist you.

  • If you need additional support completing the handbook than what is included in the purchase price (one hour of pre-delivery customization and two hours of post-delivery support), we can
    assist you.

ARE THERE ANY TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS OR LIMITATIONS?

While a full description of legal requirements guiding the use and ownership of the handbook will be included in the service agreement you sign with TAP Strategy, here are a few things you should be aware of:

  • The handbook will be sent to you as a Microsoft Word document created in MS Office 365.

  • The handbook is available in English only. The handbook is not yet available in French, which would be a requirement for businesses operating in Québec. You may translate the document at your own expense and risk, based on the terms outlined in the service agreement.

  • The handbook is licensed to a single business, whether that business has a single worksite, or multiple worksites under a single operating name. It is also designed to support small- and medium sized businesses. If you have multiple businesses operating under different operating names, or your business is larger and more complex than what would be generally considered a small- and medium-sized business, please contact us to explore options that may be more suited to your specific business needs.

WHAT IS THE BASIC PROCESS?

  • You’ll be contacted by a professional from TAP Strategy to review and sign a service agreement and complete a pre-questionnaire that collects information about your current business practices related to the handbook.

  • Within approximately 30 days, TAP Strategy will provide you with your Employee Handbook / Policy Manual that will include some highlighted items  that require your review, decision, or action. You will also receive an instruction sheet that includes steps you’ll need to take to get your handbook up and running.

  • You may need to consult with others in your business to identify outstanding questions or to finalize your approach to certain policies.

  • Once you’ve gathered all your questions and are ready to reconnect with TAP Strategy, you can book your consultation for the one hour of follow up support (the set of instructions you receive will outline how best to do this). If the support you require to finalize your handbook is greater than the one hour of post-delivery support included with your handbook, you may purchase additional time or services directly from our team.

WHAT ABOUT MODIFYING THE HANDBOOK AND ONGOING MAINTENANCE?

  • The handbook has been developed to be generic enough for most Canadian jurisdictions, and certain policies—particularly those related to compliance—will have highlighted content to indicate where further review or adjustment is required to ensure alignment with specific jurisdictional obligations.

  • Employment law in nine of the ten Canadian provinces is governed both by statute and by common law. The province of Québec, however, has no system of common law, and therefore may be subject to differing standards when it comes to the way policies are applied. While the handbook is written to apply to most situations related

to the relationship employers have with their employees, Québec-based businesses, or those businesses with employees situated in Québec purchasing the handbook, will be required to apply additional diligence to ensure regulatory compliance. The handbook is not yet available in French, which would be a requirement for businesses operating in Québec.

  • As a business, you can choose to remove certain policy sections, though no substitutions will be provided. Choosing not to include certain policies will not reduce the cost of the handbook.
